Canada announces World Cup Training Squad

Canadian men’s national field hockey team head coach Alan Brahmst today announced his official training squad for preparations leading up to the 2010 World Cup in Delhi, India.

The names of 32 athletes were released, including four goaltenders, following a four-day selection camp in Vancouver at the national team’s domestic training facility on the campus of the University of British Columbia…

The working conditions for Canada’s high performance coaches are less than ideal given the significant time commitment, the heavy workload required, and the salaries received by coaches of the country’s top athletes. The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) today announced that Olympians Alexandra Orlando and Anthony Wright have been selected to attend the 2009 International Olympic Academy (IOA). The 49th International Session for Young Participants begins June 10 and runs until June 24 in Olympia, Greece.

Both 2008 Olympians and 2007 Pan American gold medallists, Orlando and Wright have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Olympic Movement in Canada and sport overall…

Field Hockey Canada (FHC) is searching for volunteers to sit on the Domestic Competitions Committee.  The committee’s role is to provide recommendations to the Board of Directors concerning the structure and delivery of field hockey domestic events and championships.  This includes host selection, host responsibilities and delivery, competitive structure, fundraising, and other policy.

Successful candidates will gain practical experience in the amateur sport industry and make a positive impact on the development of field hockey in Canada…

the 25th Anniversary of the Atlantic Cup Tournament on August 1st and
August 2nd in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Atlantic Cup is an annual
‘festival’ tournament organized by Field Hockey Nova Scotia. The
primary goal of this event is to have fun while playing some great

The Organising Committee of National Capital Cup invites your Team (Men and Women) to participate in the 28th annual Terry Fox International Field Hockey Tournament to be held on June 19, 20 and 21, 2009.  It is a major International Tournament for Clubs, Regional, Provincial (State) and National Teams.

Field Hockey Canada and head coach Louis Mendonca released on Wednesday the names of the eighteen players and five staff who will make up Canada’s National Women’s Team at the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) 2009 Champions Challenge II to be held in Kazan, Russia from June 21 – 27.

The 35-match schedule for the 2009 FHC Senior National Championships was released today just over eight weeks before the start of the event.  Both the men’s and women’s tournaments will take place at Hawkings Field on the campus of the University of Calgary in Alberta.

The ten-team women’s tournament will begin on Wednesday, July 22nd with host Alberta South facing British Columbia’s Under-18 White team…

Canada improves to 11th in world field hockey rankings

The Canadian national men’s field hockey team have climbed two spots to reach 11th in the world according to the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) most recent world rankings released this past week.  The latest list comes after the conclusion of the Asia Cup which saw India and Japan drop in world-ranking points while Pakistan improved two-spots to sit in sixth place. 

It is the first time that the Canadian men have entered the top twelve since their top 10 ranking in 2000…
