Canadian men fall to South Africa in Final of 4-Nations

On Sunday afternoon, the Canadian men’s national field hockey team lost to South Africa (1-8) in the final of the 4-Nations Tournament in Elektrostal, Russia.

South Africa started the game at full speed and immediately unbalanced the Canadian defense, finding unmarked forwards in the 25 and scoring field goals in the 5th and 8th minute…

Canadian men beat Bangladesh to reach Final of 4-Nations

On Saturday afternoon, the Canadian men’s national field hockey convincingly team beat Bangladesh 6-2 to reach the final of the 4-Nations Tournament in Elektrostal, Russia. The game, played in beautiful sunny weather, was exciting from start to finish and kept the crowd well entertained.

Play was even in the opening minutes. The first dangerous action came in the 10th minute with a long run by Gabbar Singh, who managed to slot the ball to Dave Jameson in the circle…

The Canadian women’s national field hockey team was defeated by Belarus 1-2 Saturday morning in their final contest of the FIH Champions Challenge II in Kazan, Russia.  The loss means Canada finishes in sixth-place in the eight-team tournament.

Canada defeats Malaysia in penalty strokes

The Canadian women’s national field hockey team defeated Malaysia in penalty strokes (0-0: 4-3) Friday morning in a 5-8 classification match at the FIH Champions Challenge II in Kazan, Russia.

Stephanie Jameson (twice), Stephanie Nesbitt, and Diana Roemer all scored in the penalty strokes competition for Canada.

On Thursday afternoon, the Canadian men’s national field hockey team lost to South Africa (0-2) in their second game of the 4-Nations Tournament in Elektrostal, Russia.

The two teams had already met in an official test match here on Tuesday, when Canada lost 1-3 against a well prepared South African team. With similar styles, Canada and South Africa have historically been very close to each other: 3 wins for South Africa, 2 for Canada and 4 games tied since 2004…

On Wednesday afternoon, the Canadian men’s national field hockey team opened the 4-Nations Tournament in Elektrostal, Russia, with a tie against host Russia in front of a large home crowd.

The two teams had met in an official test match on Monday, when Canada won a hard fought battle 3-2 against a Russian team in full preparation for the European competitions of the summer…

The Canadian women’s national field hockey team salvaged a 2-2 draw with Belgium Wednesday afternoon at the FIH Champions Challenge II in Kazan, Russia.  Jessalyn Walkey of Rockwood, Ontario and Diana Roemer of Mill Bay, British Columbia scored the goals for Canada.

The Canadian men’s national field hockey team lost to South Africa 1-3 on Tuesday afternoon in Elektrostal, Russia, in the second official test match in prelude to the Four-Nations Tournament scheduled to start on Wednesday.

The two teams last met at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, with a Canadian victory 5-3. But it was a very different Canadian outfit that lined up on Tuesday, with half the roster having played less than 10 international games, in a deliberate effort by Coach Alan Brahmst to widen the group preparing for the 2010 World Cup…

FHBC to send two teams to Senior Men’s Nationals

Field Hockey BC has confirmed two provincial teams will be sent to the FHC Senior Men’s National Championship in Calgary next month.  Tentative rosters have also been posted on the organization’s website available here.

The men’s championship will now feature Team Ontario, Team Alberta, as well as Team BC Blue and Team BC White.  Several of the athletes on the Ontario and BC teams are part of the national team program…
