The last time India played Canada on the international stage was prior to the Olympic Games in 2008 at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia.  Back then, India faced a younger, less experienced Canadian Men’s side.  Ranjeev Deol, one of the team’s veterans with 144 caps to his name, recalls playing in that tournament and feels that Canada is a more mature squad this time around.

The Organizing Committee of the 7-Test Super Series between Canada and India announce today that all profits derived from the Series will be directed towards junior development initiatives.

All the net profits derived from the sale of tickets for the seven matches or for the Gala Dinner will be directed towards the development of the Canadian Junior National Program and the establishment of an Academy of Hockey at the University of British Columbia, with the goal to develop young players and prepare them to play on the senior National Team…

Field Hockey Canada (FHC) and Head-Coach Alan Brahmst announced on Sunday the names of the players who will represent Canada in the seven-game test series against India, scheduled from October 9 to 24 in Victoria and Surrey, British Columbia.

After 33 years, India’s men’s national field hockey team arrived in Canada this afternoon at the Vancouver International Airport.  The last time the Indian Team came to Canada was for the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games!

The team is of course tired but in excellent spirits and were visibly impressed by the welcome signs and the special treatment they got from the Canadian Border Services Officials, Vancouver Airport Authorities, local media, local community members, and members of the 7 Test Super Series organizing committee…

As you may or may not be aware, Field Hockey Canada recently conducted an organizational review – the Board, athlete reprepresentatives, our provincial associations and others were interviewed by an external consultant and a number of recommendations were presented to the Board. 

The next 6-9 months will serve as a transition period whereby we will not immediately hire an Executive Director to replace Suzzanne Nicholson, but will reallocate some of these funds to several individual contractors who will provide support to us in targeted priority areas…
