Canada’s Loss to Australia A is a Learning Experience

Canada kicked off the 3 Nation Series on Wednesday with a 3-0 loss to the Australia A side.  The play of the first round match did not support the lopsided score, however, as both teams had chances, and Australia’s second team simply had better finishing. 

Goaltender Matt Peck played a solid game, starting his first match after taking two years away from the team.  Australia’s three goals were scored on a penalty corner, a deflection, and a reverse stick top corner – all plays on which Peck had no chance…

In August 2008, Rob Short led the Canadian Team at the Olympic Games in Beijing. At 36, he was the oldest player in the field hockey competition and the pundits predicted that Beijing would be his swan song, ending in style an international career rich with 277 Caps.

A few months later however, in Santiago de Chile, Rob was still a key player in the Canadian Team that won the Pan American Cup, running the midfield, haranguing the troops and scoring goals…

BC Blue wins women’s national championship

BC Blue wins women’s national championship

BC Blue defeated Ontario Red 2-1 Sunday afternoon to capture the 2009 Senior Women’s National Championship of field hockey.  It is the province’s second consecutive gold medal after winning in 2008.

Katie Rushton scored the game winner for the winning side.  Other goal scorers include Stephanie Nesbitt of BC and Krissy Wishart of Ontario.

Earlier in the day BC White defeated BC U18 Blue 0-0 (4-2) on penalty strokes to claim the bronze medal…

Australian Tour update: Wettlaufer, Guest out

Paul Wettlaufer and Matt Guest have been removed from the men’s Australian Tour roster list due to injury.  Taking their place will be Dave Jameson, Phil Wright, and Richard Hildreth.

The majority of the men’s national field hockey team are currently acclimatizing in Australia ahead of their opening match this Wednesday.  The remainder of the team, who have been competing in the national championships, will be departing Canada today…

Ontario wins Senior Men’s Championship

Team Ontario captured the men’s national championship of field hockey in stunning fashion with a 3-2 comeback victory over BC Blue Friday afternoon in Calgary, Alberta.  The Ontarians scored two goals in the final two minutes of the game to win their first gold medal since 2007.

With BC leading 2-1 entering the 68th minute Ontario was awarded a penalty stroke that was converted by Adam Ali.  Sean Barretto then scored the game winner past BC goaltender Antoni Kindler with only a few seconds remaining in regulation…

Mississauga to host Field Hockey Canada Nationals July 24, 2009

MISSISSAUGA, ON, /CNW/ – Field Hockey Canada is pleased to announce that the 2009 National Championships for the men’s and women’s under 16 age group (U16) will be held at the Iceland Fields venue in Mississauga, Ontario beginning on Thursday, July 30th.

The nine-team women’s tournament and six-team men’s tournament will each begin with BC White versus Alberta, and Saskatchewan versus BC Blue respectively. Classification and playoff matches will begin on the weekend with the gold medal finals scheduled for Monday, August 3rd at 10:00 AM (men) and 12:00 PM (women)…

Congratulations to the BC U18 Men’s team for
winning gold at the 2009 Canada Cup! BC U18 beat BC U16 Blue for the
gold in the final game with a score of 3-0. BC U16 secured the bronze
medal over Alberta winning 2-0. A huge thanks to all the volunteers and
