I started playing when I was six in Richmond. All of my uncles played for Richmond and my dad thought it would be a good idea to introduce me to the sport at a young age. I was lucky to have some fantastic ex-national team players to mentor me at a young age.
I started as a player with the Junior National team in 1998. Made several training tours and then went to the Junior Pan Am Games in Chile 2000 placing 3rd and qualifying the team for the 2001 Junior World Cup. I started training with the Senior Men's team in 2002 and continued on the squad until 2005.
