Canada ground out a 3-2 victory in their final match to finish the Pan American Games Tournament in 5th position. The Canadian team was determined to avenge their earlier defeat to the Cuban team however it was the Cubans who started the game most aggressively scoring in the 4th minute of play. After the initial goal both teams settled down to an even contest which saw Canada even the score at the 26th minute with a penalty corner conversion tapped in by Tiffany Michaluk. The teams went to the half time break a goal a piece.
The Cuban team generated more attacking play in the second half but strong play by Andy Rushton, Chris DePape and Sarah Forbes in net kept the Cuban team at bay. The Cuban team broke the deadlock at the 45 min mark with a field goal but the Canadian team responded immediately with Tiffany Michaluk generating and converting a penalty corner. The final score of the game came in the 62nd minute when Canada was awarded a penalty stroke after Chris DePape was stick checked whilst playing a penalty corner rebound. Andy Rushton had no difficulty slotting the stroke to give the Canadian team a 3-2 victory. Clare Linton gained her 50th cap and was delighted to celebrate her achievement with family present in RIO.
