In a game that had no meaning on standings for either team, Canada looked to find their first win of this Pan American Games tournament against a formidable but familiar opponent.  The USA though were focused on a higher mission and looked like a team destined for the final.

From the first whistle, the US were off to a quick start with strong possession and immediately looked to exploit Canada’s defensive end.  The Canadians managed to keep some composure and the Americans at bay until a penalty corner in the 10th minute of play led to the US posting the first of their goals.  While Canada managed to generate a fair level of offence, they failed to generate any positive outcomes with their time in the Americans circle.  The US managed to post two more goals from plays that saw a lone strker left unmarked on the far post.  Sarah Forbes continued to make some key saves for Canada  throughout the half.  Half-time score was 3-0 for the USA.

Seeking to score their first goal of the tournament, Canada refocused and started the second half looking to gain some composure and press the Americans defensively but to no avail.  The USA simply stepped it up a notch and continued their dominance on the ball and transfer ability throughout the space of the pitch.  Canada looked to mount a few moments of attack but were quickly shut down by the defensive presence of the Americans.  Andy Rushton displayed some excellent defensive work on behalf of Canada but her efforts along with those of her teammates were stymied by the US and their offense within our circle.  The Americans would tally another three goals –two from penalty corners and one field goal to finish the game with a final score of 6 – 0.

Canada now finds itself crossing over to take on Uruguay on July 21st at 9:00am for the right to move on to play in the 5th/6th match.  The winner of that match will face the winner of the Brazil vs. Cuba match on the final day of play, July 24th
