Pan American Games Facts and Stats

Paul "Bubli" Chohan participated in 6 Pan American Games between 1975 and 1995, most certainly a Pan Am record! He has collected 2 Gold Medals (1983 in Caracas and 1987 in Indianapolis) and 4 Silver medals (1975 in Mexico, 1979 in San Juan, 1991 in Havana and 1995 in Mar del Plata). Bubli Chohan was selected as the Flag Bearer of the Canadian Delegation for the 1995 Pan Am Games in Mar del Plata; he is still the most capped Canadian player with 286 caps.

Alan Hobkirk participated in 4 Pan American Games between 1971 and 1983, winning a full collection of medals: 1 Gold (1983 in Caracas), 2 Silver (1975 in Mexico, 1979 in San Juan) and 1 Bronze (1971 in Cali).

With his selection for Winnipeg, Chris Gifford also earns his 4th trip to a Pan American Competition. He has already collected 1 Gold Medals (1987 in Indianapolis) and 2 Silver medals (1991 in Havana and 1995 in Mar del Plata).

David Bissett, Fred Hoos and Reg Plummer played together in 3 Pan American Games and won 1 Gold Medals (1983 in Caracas) and 2 Silver medals (1975 in Mexico, 1979 in San Juan).

Kelvin Woods also participated in 3 Pan American games: although he didn't stand on the higher step of the podium, he still collected 2 Silver medals (1975 in Mexico and 1979 in San Juan) and 1 Bronze Medal (1971 in Cali).

With their selection for Winnipeg, Andrew Griffiths and Peter Milkovich also earn a 3rd trip to a Pan American Competition. They both have 2 Silver medals (1991 in Havana and 1995 in Mar del Plata).

The 1971 Men's Team that won a bronze Medal in Cali was just a big family reunion: 3 pairs of brothers were playing: Mike and Robert Mouat, Diederick and Joost Wolsak, Lee and Jake Wright!
At the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis, two sisters played in the Canadian Team that won a Bronze Medal: Michelle and Maureen
Conn
(now Maureen Conn-Chopra).

Two Canadian Athletes were chosen as the Flag Bearer for a Canadian Pan American Games Team:
  • Nancy Charlton in 1987 (Indianapolis)
  • Paul "Bubli" Chohan in 1995 (Mar del Plata)
