Report from Kathryn Duff, Manager: The Canadian women finished the tournament on a strong note Tuesday, dominating Trinidad and Tobago 6 to nil to secure 5th place at the Pan American Games.
Composure in the backfield and patience with the ball allowed Canada to set up opportunities on attack, scoring goals on both freeplay and penalty corner attempts. Kristen Taunton opened the scoring in the first half on a beautiful shot coming down the wing. Another great individual effort came from Emily Rix who made a superb chip shot into the net after
making a perfect reception.
Sue Tingley played a dynamic game at right mid contributing with two goals. A hatrick goal by Tingley was called back when the umpire missed a beautiful tip in front of the net. Other goals game from Kim Buker and Lauren MacLean on penalty corner play. Sarah Forbes and Azelia Liu shared the goalkeeping duties for Canada, changing at the half.
The women played with inspiration and emotion after Lisa Roberts, one of the team's co-captains, announced her retirement to follow the game. |
