Canadian Women’s 2007-2013 National Development Program Launched

Mar 26, 2008 - Women's development squad camp invitees named (FHC)

March 20-25, 2008 National Camp

The first part of the Canadian Women’s 2007-2013 National Development program will commence with a training camp from March 20 to 25 in Vancouver for Under 23 athletes.  Approximately 60 identified Under 23 athletes who have the future potential to represent Canada have been identified and have been invited to the camp. Athletes eligible for the 2013 Junior World Cup will be identified and integrated into the program after the competition of the current Olympic Campaign.

Rationale

For the first 3 years of the current cycle since 2005 Field Hockey Canada’s strategic emphasis has been on senior national teams and the qualification of both teams for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  The Men's Senior team was successful qualifying for the Olympics after a gold medal victory at the Pan American Games.

FHC is now preparing a long-term technical plan for a national development program to be fully integrated into the senior programs under the leadership of the national coaches. This plan will encompass an international schedule that will build towards the competitive success of Canada at the 2009 Pan American Cup, the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the 2012 London Olympics and the 2013 Junior World Cup.
