June 20 - Final - USA - Canada : 2 - 0
Coach Dru Marshall: All in all, we had a great tournament. I am happy with the team's progress and with today's game. We played well in the second half and dominated the play. This is a good performance going into the Pan Ams and we will take that confidence with us.
Player's Comments:
Laurelee Kopek: "We played
a good game today and stuck to our game plan. We had plenty of chances and just
couldn't put the ball in the net. We will need to do this in the Pan Ams!
However, we will take this experience and go to the Pan Ams with confidence."
Carla Somerville: "Today's game felt better than the last game against the US. We had many shots in the last 10 min which is positive. It would have been nice to beat them now, but we know we are on the right track and will be ready for them in Winnipeg."
Lisa Faust: "After some small adjustments, the goals will come. Today we were a bit tired and tried to do what was needed. We will take this experience and go into the Pan Ams with confidence."
June 19 - USA - Canada : 2 - 1
Coach Dru Marshall: Today was a very hard running game. In the first half, we beat them to the ball and played very well. Whereas, there was a 15 minute period in the second half where they outran us and beat us to the ball. Both teams are very close and have a similar style of hockey; hard, physical and the team that remains standing at the end of the game will be victorious.
Player's Comments:
Laurelee Kopek: "In the
first half we played well and had the momentum. However, in the second half,
we had some lulls and they beat us to the 50-50 balls. It seemed like they
wanted it more than we did and our confidence left us.
Sue Armstrong: "After they scored in the second half, it seemed like our mentality was that we were playing only for the tie rather than the win. Despite that, we did play well at times and that is very encouraging.
Sarah Forbes: "We should have won that game. We let them back in and they took the momentum, and ran with it.
June 17 - Canada - Ireland : 2-0
Coach Dru Marshall: We played better today. There was more support and the goals showed more commitment on the field. These are two things we have been working on, so it is good to see them put into place. The Irish team looked tired, especially in the second half, and we ran at them to open up the game. Once again our second half was better and our goal is to play that well for the entire 70 minutes.
Player's Comments:
Carla Somerville: "It sure is
nice to bury a couple of goals! This has given us confidence going into the
US game"
Amy MacFarlane: "It is good to get a win and I had fun out there today! We picked up again in the second half and took advantage of the tiring Irish team"
Lisa Eastman: "Today was a good win! It is always good to beat a team that is ranked higher than you are in standings"
June 16 - Canada - Japan : 1-1
Karen MacNeil has been replaced by Lisa Eastman for this tournament.
Coach Dru Marshall: "The first half was very disappointing. Japan came out strong and we strayed from our game plan. Things that have been successful for us over the past few days were not used. There were also a lot of unforced errors that all players made.
On the positive side, despite making many mistakes we managed to pull off a tie. It is good to know that we are capable of coming from behind and dig for every chance. Tomorrow will be a good test to play well for the entire 70 minutes."
Players' comments:
Chris Hunter:
"After a tough first half, slow moving and few connecting passes, we managed
to have a good second half. We will take the tie and look forward to playing
Ireland tomorrow."
Jenny Zinkan-McGrade and Sue Tingley: "We were thinking too much about attacking and forgot to defend. Tomorrow we will need to play 2 good halves and not just one."
