June 29 - England 4 - Canada 0
Canada lost another hard fought battle 4 - 0 to the English team.
Although, after the game
Dru Marshall,
head coach, stated "this game alone was worth the money it cost to come here".
Canada held their own throughout the game but England had more success
converting their opportunities. Canada had possession inside the 25 yard line
but couldn't penetrate the circle getting only two p.c. in the final 20
minutes of the game. As Marshall stated "England's back field was filled with
dead-eyed dicks today".
The heat again was a factor for Canada, hovering around the mid 30's on
the turf.
July 2 - South Korea 3 - Canada 2
Goals for South Korea: Lee Eun-Young (6'), Cho Eun-Jung (11'),
Kim Myung-Ok (65')
Goals for Canada:
Dana Anderson (26'),
Veronica Planella (43')
July 3 - Canada 1 - Argentina 0
In a closely matched game, highlites included a stellar world class
performance from
Sarah Forbes
in goal and a penalty stroke by
Nicole Colaco.
Canada started quickly again with a penalty corner in the first minute
of play, just as Argentina started the second half quickly being awarded
a p.c. right of the bat. However, there was no score well into the
second half. Then, with a strong offensive attack Canada drew a foul in
the circle and was awarded a penalty stroke. Nicole Colaco took the
stroke and scored a beautiful goal high to the goalie's stick side.
Canada held off Argentina's tremendous pressure with stellar goaltending
from Forbes. The last five minutes included several penalty corners
against Forbes and the Canadian defense but the squad came out
victorious.
July 5 - Holland 3 - Canada 1
Canada played another excellent game. It was the last game of the day,
the last day of the tournament. If Canada won, they would be tied for
third place in the 6 nation tournament, a tie would put them in a tie
for fifth and a loss would put them in the sixth and final spot.
Australia having won earlier gave Holland impetus to beat Canada to sew
up second spot.
The Dutch scored first early in the first half but Canada battled back
drawing a corner in the 25th minute. The corner was perfectly executed with
Lisa Faust
taking the first power shot and
Sue Armstrong
deflecting it home.
Holland scored on two penalty corners in the second half to take the
win. Other highlights included
Amy MacFarlane's
fiesty defensive work drawing an unfortunate yellow card and five minutes in
the penalty box.
Laurelee Kopeck
took a vicious slash on the wrist in an effort to get the tying goal.
Tournament is over! A wonderful experience was had by all! Australia won the tournament and went home with the big $20,000 cheque!! The Canadians are heading home to regroup for Zimbabwe and the World Cup Qualifier.
