July 14 - Canada - USA : 3-0
Game 4 of the series! Canada wins 3-0! The Canadians came out with renewed vigour after their 1-0 loss in the previous game. Play was relatively even for the first half but Canada started to put the pressure on the US team near the end of the half. Michelle Bowyer gave Becky Price a great pass in the 30th minute which Becky powered over the goalie as the keeper came sliding out. Canada then dug their heels in and with another great pass from Michelle "Play Maker" Bowyer to Karen MacNeill which Jumbo orchestrated with a great run out of the backfield. Karen beat her defender and reverse chipped the ball past the goalie 1 minute later (31st minute). Canada lead 2-0 at the half.
The Canadians came out strong with Amy MacFarlane creating a penalty stroke in the 38th minute which Jumbo Kopeck roofed into the top corner . Canada fell back on their heels a bit for 10-12 minutes in the middle of the half but strong defense and goaltending kept the Americans at bay. The shutout was preserved in the 71st minute with goalkeeper Sarah Forbes spoiling an American breakaway.
Team Canada is extremely pleased with their play as they stuck to the game plan created by Coach Dru Marshall and played with intensity and resilience.
The Canadians lead the series 3-1. There is one more test match against the US on Sunday afternoon.

July 11 - Canada - USA : 2-0
Canada started a little slow today and the US took advantage of it, creating 2 or 3 threatening opportunities, but goalkeeper Sarah Forbes was ready to roll, stopping the US dead in their tracks! A few key saves were made to keep Canada at a 0-0 draw at the end of the half.
Canada stepped on to the field in the second half with a definite purpose: to win the game! They pressed early in the half, creating 4 penalty corners in the first 10 minutes of the half. In the 41st minute, Canada took advantage of one of these penalty corners to take the lead. Karen MacNeill hit a blistering shot on net and Jenny Zinkan-McGrade scored (41st minute) off the rebound from the keepers pads!
The goal was followed by a steady stream of shots by the Canadian forwards. In the 51st minute, another corner was awarded when Becky Price was fouled in the D. A missed stop on the PC resulted in a broken play which Sue Tingley used to maximum advantage, rolling out to the left and hitting Karen MacNeill with a perfectly timed pass. Karen wasted no time in hammering the ball into the far corner for a 2-0 lead. Canada continued to play well throughout the half, and were happy with the win after a somewhat dismal first half performance.
Krista Thompson shared the shutout with Sarah Forbes.
Coach Dru Marshall was happy with the result. "We have been on the losing end of too many of those types of games against the Americans - it is nice to finally come out on the other end of the score. The athletes set a very high standard in the first game and the second half was more indicative of the type of hockey that Canada is currently capable of playing. We look forward to the next match."
