Following agreement with the FIH this weekend's Glasgow World Classic has been recognised as an 'official' FIH event. This increases the standing of the event and means that the competing teams can play under the name of their country and caps can be awarded. The competing nations are Scotland, Holland, Australia, Denmark, Canada and the USA. The Austrlian women will also play a couple of matches over the weekend against to Scottish opposition. Keith Joss of Glasgow City Council said "The Council are delighted that the tournament will now hold official international status, particularly coming at the start of 2003 when Glasgow holds the accolade of European Capital of Sport." Gerry Ralph, President of Scottish Hockey Union said "We are very pleased that the FIH has recognised the quality of this event and of the teams and officials involved." | |||
