  • India won 8 times the Olympic competition, including 6 consecutive times between 1928 and 1956.

  • 3 Indian players won 3 Gold Medals:
    • Dhyan Chand (1928, 1932 and 1936); Dhyan's son, Ashok Kumar, scored the winning goal for India over Pakistan in the final of the 1975 World Cup, in Kuala Lumpur!
    • Richard Allen (1928, 1932 and 1936);
    • Randir Singh (1948, 1952 and 1956).

  • The Keller family of Germany is by far the most successful field hockey family in the Olympic Games:
    • Grand-father Erwin won a Silver Medal in 1936 (Berlin);
    • Father Carsten won a Gold Medal in 1972 (Munich);
    • Son Andreas won a Silver Medal in 1984 (Los Angeles), another Silver Medal in 1988 (Seoul) before finally winning a Gold Medal in 1992 (Barcelona);
    • Young sister Natasha was the youngest player on the German team in 1996 (Atlanta) and has already won a Bronze Medal at the 1998 World Cup in Holland.
