Due to an unfortunate injury, Ken Pereira had to go home before a single game was played... He was replaced by veteran Chris Gifford. But right wing seems to be a dangerous spot: only two games into his tour of duty and having scored two goals, Chris injured his hand against Belgium. He returned home for treatment and was replaced by Casey Furgusson.

August 6 - Canada - Spain : 3-0

Canada defeated Spain 3-0 in game 3 of our series in Barcelona.

This was a well played match with both teams attacking from the opening minute. Spain forced the early penalty corner and a new variation was well defended by the Canadian defence.

The action was continuous at both ends and Canada got on the score board when Rob Short passed the ball to Bindi Kullar who beat the defender and the goalkeeper to score.

Score at the half time was 1-0 for Canada.

Second half started with Spain creating good attacking play down the wings but the defence held strong and Mike Mahood in goal did not have much to do. The defence with Ian Bird, Ronnie Jagday, Alan Brahmst, Robin D'Abreo and Ravi Kahlon were up to the task.

The Canadian attackers had several well coordinated plays and generated 3 penalty corners. The corner unit scored from Alan Brahmst on a pass from Rob Short. A penalty stroke was awarded from the next corner when Peter Milkovich was fouled while in the process of taking the shot at net. Peter scored from the stroke to make it 3-0.

The team returns back home tomorrow. The Olympic Team will be named this week!

August 4 - Canada - Spain : 1-1

Canada and Spain played to a 1-1 draw today in the second match.

Once again the match was played at a very high tempo with both teams playing fast attacking hockey. Canada opened scoring midway in the first half when Peter Milkovich scored from a penalty corner. With action at both ends, the defences played a big role. There were great tackles at our end by Ian Bird, Ronnie Jagday, Alan Brahmst and Robin D'Abreo.

The Spanish defence played well to stop Andrew Griffiths, Scott Mosher and Paul Wettlaufer. In one attempt, Sean Campbell broke through and was about 10 yards from net with only the goalkeeper to beat, when a Spanish stick came down hard and he could not get the shot away... The Spanish umpire awarded Canada a penalty corner.

Spain tied the game late in the second half from a deflection that beat Hari Kant in goal. Hari played a solid game in goal.

The last game of the series will be played on Sunday morning.

August 3 - Canada - Spain : 4-2

Canada defeated Spain 4-2 in our first match of this 3 game series.

Canada opened scoring from a field goal by Scott Mosher early in the game when he deflected the ball past the goalie. Although both teams created some well coordinated attacking plays, Canada added a second goal when Rob Short beat 2 defenders and his blistering reverse stick shot beat the goalie.

Spain then picked up the tempo of the game and scored from a well executed passing play. The shot was low and hard. Mike Mahood should have stopped it! A few minutes later, there was a breakdown in midfield when Paul Wettlaufer beat a Spanish player who managed to deflect the ball with his foot to a teammate. The umpire missed the call and in the ensuing play Spain managed to tie the game... The score at half time was 2-2.

Canada continued to play well and scored 2 more field goals in the second half from Rob Short and Andrew Griffiths. The Canadian Team defence was excellent in the second half as it held the Spanish team to very few scoring opportunities. The attackers played well with everyone contributing.

August 1 - Canada - Korea : 4-1

Canada defeated Korea 4-1 in a fast paced game today in Linburg, Germany, as they continue with their Olympic preparation. Canada opened the scoring on a penalty corner shot by Peter Milkovich. Two minutes later Rob Short scored on a field goal. Korea pressured down the right side of the field but were successfully stopped by Alan Brahmst and Robin D'Abreo. The score at half time was 2-0.

Korea pressured right off the start of the second half. Canada counter-attacked and Bindi Kullar received a well placed midfield pass, eliminated a defender and beat the goalkeeper to go ahead 3-0.

At the 45th minute mark, Korea was awarded a penalty corner and scored off the hit which deflected off a Canadian defender.

Not satisfied with a 3-1 lead, Canada continued to work the ball. Effective passing in the midfield led to a pass into the circle to Andrew Griffiths who made it 4-1 for Canada.

The team is now leaving for Barcelona tomorrow for a series of three test matches against Spain.

July 30 - Canada - Korea : 0-1

Canada lost to Korea 0-1 after an extremely good game.

The first half was even, played mainly in midfield, with both teams working very hard and managing well to neutralize each other. There were few real opportunities and the score at the half was still 0-0.

In the second half, Korea got an opportunity from a Canadian turnover in midfield and quickly capitalized from the extra man advantage to make it 0-1. A few minutes later, Canada was awarded a penalty corner then a penalty stroke but the ball hit the crossbar...

Although the game opened up in the last minutes with both teams creating good attacking opportunities, no more goals were scored.

Despite losing on the scoreboard, Canada played very well and according to Coach Shiaz Virjee "should have at least finished the game with a tie".

July 28 - Canada - Belgium : 4-2

Canada played a fast paced game against Belgium with Hari Kant in nets.

Canada scored two goals in the first half, a field goal from Chris Gifford and a penalty corner goal from Peter Milkovich. In the second half, Paul Wettlaufer and Andrew Griffiths both converted penalty corners for Canada.

The team leaves for Limburg Germany tomorrow for tougher competition vs Korea and Spain next week.

July 26 - Canada - Belgium : 2-2

The Canadian team did not play well in the first half, tending to drop back and let the Belgium side come at them. Belgium scored on a penalty corner in the first half and the half time score remained 0-1.

Canada played much better in the second half but Belgium scored first again on a penalty stroke won off a penalty corner play. The Canadians, down by two, picked up the pace and Chris Gifford deflected the ball in the net for Canada's first goal; the equalizer came from another field goal by Andrew Griffiths.

Mike Mahood was in nets for Canada today.

The team was not pleased with their performance - they now have a day off before a rematch with Belgium.

July 25 - Canada - Malaysia : 2-1

Malaysia scored a field goal early and Canada responded with a penalty corner goal (flick) from Peter Milkovich. The score at the half was 1-1.

In the second half Canada had most of the play. A field goal by Andrew Griffiths was pulled back but Andrew was later able to convert on a penalty corner direct hit. Final score 2-1 for Canada.
