Beginning her field hockey career as a player, Dru MARSHALL enjoyed a turn on the National squad in 1978 and played for the University of Manitoba while completing her undergraduate degree in physical education. While completing her Masters of Science and Ph.D. in exercise physiology at the University of Alberta, Dru Marshall worked as head coach of the women's varsity team, a position she has held since 1980.

In 1988, Dru Marshall was appointed head coach of the Junior Women's National Team and held that position until April 1996, when she was awarded the position of head coach of the Senior Women's National Team. Over the course of her coaching career, Dru Marshall has received the Canada West Coach of the Year award four times, CIAU Coach of the Year award twice and one of the most prestigious coaching award, the 3M Coach of the Year in 1994 (picture below).

A Professor at the University of Alberta, she instructs a graduate level course on eating disorders and body composition, and is currently on secondment to Field Hockey Canada. In addition to her interest in personal health and well being, Dru Marshall focuses her research on childhood obesity and the female athlete triad.

Her experience as a coach has made her value the person as well as the player. She is interested in how people strive to excel and how they maximize potential.
