Did you know ?

It is often said that field hockey is a family sport. The best example is certainly the Keller family of Germany, with three generations of Olympic medalists: grand-father Erwin (Silver Medal in 1936), father Carsten (Gold Medal in 1972), son Andreas (Silver Medal in 1984, another Silver Medal in 1988 before finally winning a Gold Medal in 1992); young sister Natasha has already played in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games and was named 1999 FIH Player of the Year.

Team Saskatchewan sisters Team Saskatchewan sisters Here at the Canada Games, the Saskatchewan Field Hockey Team is fielding 3 sets of sisters (including 2 sets of twins): Tanya and Tanis Klippenstine are both goalkeepers and are twins; Amie and Amanda Lodoen are twins as well; Sherri and Tania Andrews are sisters.      (click on the pictures for more on that story)

On the New Brunswick Team, Krista and Wendy Moffett are sisters. They were both already playing in the 1997 Canada Games... with their older sister Dawn! On the Nova Scotia Team, Arron and Lisa Bonin are sisters, with their mother Linda coaching the team.

Lown familyAndrea Lown, #11 on the Alberta Team at these Canada Games, is also coming from a serious field hockey family: her father Peter played in the Canadian Team in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and her mother Lorette played in the very first Canada Games, in 1969 in Halifax.      (click on the picture for more on that story)

On the Ontario Field Hockey Team, Julia Morton is hoping to do at least as well as her older sister Lisa, who won a Silver Medal at the 1997 Canada Games in Brandon. Julia's twin sister Erin should also have been on the Ontario Team this year but she is ineligible, having already played for the Senior National Team.
