Field Hockey Canada > Job Opportunity - Head Coach Women's Masters Program [Volunteer Position]

Working in collaboration with a variety of partners, Field Hockey Canada is the national sport governing body responsible for the development, growth and promotion of field hockey in Canada.  Among its responsibilities, Field Hockey Canada selects, prepares and promotes Canada’s teams for international competitions.

As of 2015, the Women’s Masters teams were added to the roster of National teams under the Field Hockey Canada umbrella. The program has doubled in two years and we are now seeking a volunteer Head Coach for the Women’s Masters program.  This position will work with the Masters committee responsible for athlete preparation, team competition, program planning and management, with an emphasis on strong collaboration across Canada through engagement with clubs and Provincial organizations.

The Head Coach, in collaboration with the Committee, is responsible for the following duties:

  • Design an annual plan, establishing athlete training standards and targeted events;
  • Design practice plans for all sessions related to Field Hockey Canada Masters training sessions across the country;
  • Activate, promote, encourage and support Masters training and competition environments within Canada;
  • Engage with, and develop coaches across Canada to support Masters activity;
  • Work with the Committee in maintaining regular contact with Masters athletes and assisting with other program logistics as needed;
  • Travel with the Canadian Women’s Masters teams for International competitions.

Please note: while the position is a volunteer role, costs for the Head Coach will be covered when travelling with the teams, including the 2018 IMHA Masters World Cup, which takes place in Terrassa, Spain July 25-August 5, 2018.

Skills / Background:

  • Evidence of coach experience, ideally with a successful track record of coaching at a variety of levels;
  • Proof of the ability to work effectively within a team, possessing excellent planning, interpersonal, management and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate with and inspire others;
  • Strong engagement and communication skills;
  • Experience integrating volunteers to support teams;
  • An appreciation of the Masters game, both on and off the pitch.
